How to make a citation appear as (Author YYYY)?

At the moment a citation of the form [@reference] renders as Author (YYYY) but i would prefer to have it as (Author YYYY). Is there a way to do this?

Are citation styles what you are after?

Yes! but i am not managing to get it to work.

  1. I save a .csl file from here in the blot dropbox folder
  2. I put a csl: /path/to/file.csl in the yaml preamble of my blog post
  3. It does not work…

What am I doing wrong?

Are you replacing /path/to/file.csl in Step 2 with the actual path to the file? Use your blog folder as root.

For example, if your CSL file was called 'style.csl' and it was stored inside a folder called 'Posts' inside your blog folder, then the metadata should look like this:

csl: /Posts/style.csl

Yes, I am doing that – the CSL file is in the root of the blog and so I put csl: /style.csl(because my post is in a different folder than root)

Interesting – that should work then – would you mind emailing us a link to the post in question? We'll take a look and work out exactly what's going on
